My name is Jess Abbotts, and I'm a 24-year-old actor originally hailing from East Hampton, Connecticut. This means that despite my love for Wendy Williams' ICONIC performance on The Masked Singer, I am NOT a "Native New Yorker"!
I moved to Long Island in late 2022 after graduating from Western Connecticut State University's Theatre Performance and Music programs. Meanwhile, I got my improv kicks acting as both Secretary and Performance Team Member of Western Improv Group (WIG).
Outside of the theater, I am an avid Sims player, Taco Bell eater, and court jester of every home I walk into. I spend my days at the whim of my cat, Fern, often referred to as "Princess of the World" or "Destroyer of Worlds" depending on her level of ire for mankind at that moment.
Currently, you can find me haunting Long Island at Chambers of Hell, starring as Aphrodite in WIG alumni and TikTok star Tina Vlamis' Jenny Rogers Needs a Miracle, and playing with new repertoire at Open Jar Studios!
One of my favorite things to do is have fun with different pieces I don't normally get a chance to sing. On my 24th birthday, I went to Open Jar Studios to sing some of these songs. This is an on-book singthrough of "Popular" from Stephen Schwartz's Wicked that I recorded that day!
As someone who works at a haunted house as one of my regular acting gigs, I LOVE a spooky musical, especially when there's a legit soprano role that allows me to show off my classical chops! So when I saw a call posted for Jane Doe in Jacob Richmond and Brooke Maxwell's Ride the Cyclone, it was only natural that I jumped at the opportunity to audition.
My history with Phantom goes far back, long before I was exposed to any musical adaptations. I first discovered the novel by Gaston Leroux tucked in a corner of my third grade classroom and was completely mesmerized. Years later, I became interested in theatre as a hobby after seeing my first Broadway show, Wicked, and attended my first theatre camp that summer. We took a trip to see Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, and it changed my life forever. I decided to pursue theatre as a career and absorbed every adaptation of the story I could find, including Maury Yeston's Phantom, the source of this piece. The story of Phantom continues to drive my love for theatre, and I hope to play Christine Daaé during my career.
